Letter for President Marcos Jr.

Dear President Marcos Jr.,

Hope this letter finds you in good health. I am Althea, a concerned student, and I wish to write my thoughts and concerns about the newly introduced Matatag Curriculum in our education system.

While I understand that this curriculum would address long-standing challenges in education, I am deeply concerned by its implications on students like me and my peers. Specifically, it may inadvertently add undue pressure on students, limit the opportunities for holistic learning experiences that we might have been accorded, and overlook the need for inclusivity and mental health support in the educational landscape.

Changes to the curriculum may seem desirable on paper, but in practice they prove unrealistic and ineffective. Most of my classmates and I have been overwhelmed by the increasing number of tasks and new teaching approaches that seem to be made not for understanding but for being efficient. This is an alarming time when the system should be encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and flexibility in the fast-changing world.

I also worry that prior to the implementation of these new policies, students, parents, and teachers were not consulted adequately. Education is a result of cooperation, and when stakeholders are included in making the decision, the policies made would be exactly what the affected party needs.

As a student, I respectfully urge your administration to reassess the Matatag Curriculum and take into account the voices of students, parents, and educators in shaping a better educational future for our country. In doing so, we can work together to create an education system that nurtures both academic excellence and personal growth while also promoting mental well-being.

Thank you for finding time to read my concerns. Open dialogue is key in the resolution of the issues, and I hope that a response from your esteemed office is being worked on.

Sincerely,
Althea Colheen C. Raganit
