Earth Month: Small Steps, Big Change

Image
After all, it is Earth Month-the period when stocks are tallied and promises are made to do better. Easy to get lost in the sheer vastness of the many environmental challenges one faces at any given time, but not forget that each little bit matters. Here's what I have been doing for this month-to focus on making small changes in daily habits that will further reduce my environmental footprint. Plant a Tree - joined a community tree-planting initiative and planted a little sapling in our community garden Compost at Home - I have started collecting food wastes and yard wastes so the stuff won't end up in the dump, which becomes nutrient-rich soil. Reduce Use of Plastic - always carry reusable grocery bags and containers with me to the store and really make an effort to never use single-use plastics again. Dine in Restaurants Environmentally Responsible Practices - Eat at a restaurant that uses locally sourced ingredients, organic if possible, to promote the idea of patronizing bu...

My Reflection

Image
It definitely has been an eye-opening journey of the first quarter with ICT 10, full of interesting discoveries, as well as some unsuspected challenges. Reading the history of the internet was pretty surprising, especially how the internet had changed from what it was a military project to today's global phenomenon. We learn about the pioneers, those people like Tim Berners-Lee and Vinton Cerf who brought us the internet, inspiring through their vision and dedication. It was when I heard their stories that made me set up some of my personal digital goals. We also learnt how to make a blog, manage it as well; we learned platforms, style of writing to be developed in interesting content as well as a basic coding. Indeed, while setting up my blog and all that was technical sometimes seemed really tough to cope with, the feeling gradually dissipated with the help of online tutorials, practice, the support of my classmates and teacher. The toughest thing was that making i...

Letter for President Marcos Jr.

Image
Dear President Marcos Jr., Hope this letter finds you in good health. I am Althea, a concerned student, and I wish to write my thoughts and concerns about the newly introduced Matatag Curriculum in our education system. While I understand that this curriculum would address long-standing challenges in education, I am deeply concerned by its implications on students like me and my peers. Specifically, it may inadvertently add undue pressure on students, limit the opportunities for holistic learning experiences that we might have been accorded, and overlook the need for inclusivity and mental health support in the educational landscape. Changes to the curriculum may seem desirable on paper, but in practice they prove unrealistic and ineffective. Most of my classmates and I have been overwhelmed by the increasing number of tasks and new teaching approaches that seem to be made not for understanding but for being efficient. This is an alarming time when the system should be encouraging crea...

A Salute to the Silent Heroes: Recognizing the Impact of Teachers

Image
Teachers, indeed the silent heroes, shape the minds and hearts of our society in the future. Their work lies not inside the four walls of the classroom: knowledge is only a part of it; rather, it nourishes character, values, and aspirations in students. They inspire curiosity, foster passion, and encourage them to be responsible citizens.      They have a great influence because their actions form the very fabric of our nation. And they are beacons that lead us through some of the hardest times we go through and joy at our triumphs. They believe in us even when we doubt ourselves. The commitment of the members to education is proof of their hard work and passion in making a difference.      This calls for an opportunity to sincerely thank teachers across the country. Let's acknowledge their hard work and unwavering commitment; invaluable contributions are made toward the future of the nations. Let us unite-the students, parents, c...

Yesterday Me, Today, and Tomorrow

Image
My name is Althea Colheen C. Raganit, they call me Thei or Thea. My hobbies are reading books and wattpad stories, playing online games like mobile legends, roblox, and call of duty. I love cleaning our house everyday because seeing our house clean and neat makes my mood to be good the whole day. I eat a lot and my favorite food is pizza. I spend time with my pet dog named cookie because she give me energy to start my day. I also like to spend time and hanging out with my friends, my parents and we only see each other after school and after their work, but we still manage to ask our days.     I have anxiety in speaking to a lot of people especially when I'm in front of them. I also have a low confident. But as an STE student, it really needs us to be vocal. I told my close friend that I'm struggling to academics because of my anxiety, and he told me to gain strength by taking time to practice my speaking skill and practicing over and ov...

Weathering the Storms: Building a Stronger Philippines

Image
The Philippines is a vibrant mosaic of islands, battered by the temper of nature. Typhoons sweep in and leave their imprint on homes and livelihoods, and then hearts dwelling here. Earthquake rumbles on the ground, and volcanoes convulse, reminding all of the enormity of power under our feet. When they view such intense changes-climate is shifting which will bring hardship upon the faces of the Filipinos and makes them lose strength on rebuilding. A constant fight against odds, worse by poverty, nonexistence in infrastructure, and lack of preparedness. However, the Filipino spirit never gives-in-it shines bright as a hope against adversity.      It acts on the determination given by a sensitive mix of resolve and pity, enhancing infrastructure, developing early warning systems, and encouraging communities to prepare for the inevitable. Now, the NGOs-the vigilant watchdog-help out in relief operations, rehabilitation, and even building a community. But...
